  • Marisa is an experienced lawyer and investigator with expertise across a range of subject areas, including public sector governance, privacy law, administrative law, and all aspects of workplace law.

    Marisa was called to the bar of British Columbia in 2010 after completing her law degree at the University of Victoria and clerking at the BC Court of Appeal.

    Prior to joining Southern Butler Price, Marisa spent over 14 years at a leading local government law firm, including several years as a partner. She practised primarily in the areas of labour, employment and human rights, acting in an advisory capacity, but also as a negotiator, investigator, and advocate. She has represented clients in matters before the courts, the Human Rights Tribunal, labour arbitrators, the Labour Relations Board, and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner.

    Marisa has completed comprehensive investigation training, including in relation to trauma-informed practices. She is recognized by clients for her warmth and authenticity, as well as the practical and creative approach that she brings to dispute resolution.

  • Marisa brings broad-based experience to her workplace law and investigations practice, including in the public and private sector and in unionized and non-unionized workplaces. She has investigated and overseen investigations into allegations of bullying and harassment, sexual harassment, discrimination, privacy breaches and other forms of workplace misconduct. She also acts as an investigator under local government codes of conduct and assists in the formal and informal resolution of complaints.

    Marisa assists in the preparation of workplace policies and corporate governance policies, including codes of conduct. She also provides education and training on workplace health and safety matters, governance matters, conflicts of interest, and privacy obligations for public bodies under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

  • In 2023, Marisa was appointed by the City of Victoria as the investigator under its Code of Conduct Bylaw for a three-year term.
