David is a lawyer and investigator at Southern Butler Price LLP. His practice involves complex investigations in a wide range of workplace issues in both the public and private sector.
David received his law degree from the University of Calgary in 2014, during which he studied abroad at the University of Amsterdam focusing on European and international labour law. He was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2015 and has since practiced exclusively in the area of workplace law.
David was a lawyer at one of Western Canada’s leading workplace law firms, practicing in all areas of labour and employment law, including human rights, privacy, and workplace health and safety. He also has extensive practical in-house labour relations experience and has been a negotiator in collective bargaining. He was Senior Legal Counsel at a healthcare employers’ association, where he appeared regularly in significant arbitration, mediation and Labour Relations Board proceedings. David also conducted complex research at a K-12 public school employers’ association.

David’s practice includes a wide range of workplace investigations in both provincial and federal jurisdictions. He is regularly involved in investigating allegations of bullying and harassment, sexual harassment, and other forms of misconduct.
He is an educator and speaker for workplace issues including investigations, human resources best practices, and workplace law. David’s practice also includes facilitation and mediation, and he has completed the Mediation and Conflict Management certification course from Harvard Law School Executive Education.
Mediator
David Louie has a reputation of having a practical, creative, and personable approach to dispute resolution. David has an extensive background in workplace dispute resolution as counsel, with mediation frequently used throughout his practice. He has demonstrated an acute sensitivity to the interests of both his clients and other parties in finding positive and effective solutions. David frequently engaged in mediation procedures including in the grievance arbitration, BC Labour Relations Board, and civil litigation contexts for a wide range of clients in both the private and public sectors. He has extensive practical in-house labour relations experience at two large public sector employers’ associations. This included acting as Senior Legal Counsel at a health care employers’ association, where he appeared regularly in significant arbitration, mediation, and Labour Relations Board proceedings. There, he co-led the negotiation of one of BC’s largest multi-employer public health care collective agreements for the 2019 to 2022 term. Playing a key role in the negotiation, administration, and litigation of multiple province-wide multi-employer collective agreements, David has been a trusted advisor to employers, while fostering a positive and collegial relationship with unions and third parties. -
David was elected to sit on the Canadian Bar Association, British Columbia Branch, Labour Law Subsection Executive.
